Livestock - #1 Customer for Soybean Meal

PDF Print E-mail

titleAnimal agriculture is a necessary and important part of our lives. Livestock and poultry producers help support our communities by generating tax revenue, creating jobs and consuming local products, like grains and oilseeds.

The soybean checkoff actively supports animal agriculture, because it directly impacts economic growth. Livestock and poultry support our local economy by generating more demand for our soybeans. In fact , livestock and poultry are the country’s number one soybean meal customer, which means more profit opportunities for soybean farmers in our communities. Today, 98% of all U.S. soybean meal is consumed by livestock & poultry

Current Livestock Programs

Grant Partnership Program

Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) is currently offering grants to Indiana farmers who want to spread the positive word of agriculture in their communities. These grants are intended to financially assist individuals or organizations as they plan and carry through on farm outreach programs in their communities. The programs could include anything from creating a farm Web site to hosting a neighborhood event in order to promote agriculture.

Examples of programs that may receive grants include but are not limited to:

•           Local community activities focused on agriculture

•           Neighbor appreciation dinners on farm

•           Community group tours on farm

•           Networking program with non-farm organizations

•           Humanitarian programs such as food drives

The toolkit is designed to provide resources to help spread the word of agriculture to friends, family, neighbors and community. It includes information such as how to host a neighborhood event, set up a blog or write a letter to the editor.
