The Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) is recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Qualified State Soybean Board (QSSB), as defined in the Soybean Promotion & Research Act (SPARC) (soybean checkoff program) for the State of Indiana to manage the Indiana soybean checkoff program.  In addition, ISA has a membership & policy committee, not funded by checkoff, for the purposes of representing soybean farmers on critical policy and regulatory issues affecting the soybean industry.

Indiana Soybean Farmers Complete Historic Mergeralt

In 2006, Indiana's two farmer-led soybean organizations - the Indiana Soybean Board (ISB) and the Indiana Soybean Growers Association (ISGA) - completed a merger that moves Indiana to the national forefront in providing effective and efficient service to Indiana's soybean farmers. The merger led to the creation of the Indiana Soybean Alliance.

The Alliance is led by a single farmer board that is responsible for investing Indiana's soybean checkoff funds and working with state and federal policymakers to promote policies that benefit Indiana's soybean farmers.

The Indiana Soybean Board, as the state's soybean checkoff organization had, formerly, been responsible for managing Indiana's soybean checkoff programs. The Board has worked on behalf of all Indiana farmers who contribute to the checkoff.

The Indiana Soybean Growers Association had been the state's membership organization - with more than 900 dues-paying members statewide - that worked to promote legislation favorable to the soybean industry. Since soybean checkoff funds cannot be used for policy development, memberships in the ISA and American Soybean Association, as well as private and corporate contributions are used to fund policy work.

ISA History

alt

The Indiana Soybean Board's soybean checkoff programs are conducted through a partnership between the United Soybean Board and qualified state soybean boards.

alt

American Soybean Association (ASA) is a membership association for soybean farmers. ISA's Membership & Policy Committee works with ASA providing soybean farmers representation on state, national, and international issues affecting the soybean industry. Since the soybean checkoff funds cannot be used for soybean lobbying efforts, the ASA assumes this role for farmers.
