Pork Tenderloin Tenders Win 2018 Colts Best Tailgate Recipe Contest

 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 27, 2018) —At the Colts game on Nov. 18, the competition was tighter than ever before – but not because of football. Before the game, the 2018 Colts Best Tailgate Recipe Contest excited hungry fans in Touchdown Town with savory and sweet treats to tame most voracious of appetites. Presented by the Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) and Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA), which are the  corn and soybean checkoff organizations for Hoosier farmers, this competition highlighted the abundance of flavorful foods produced by farmers across the state.

 

Indiana Pork Tenderloin Tenders by Maggie Hellman of Indianapolis narrowly defeated the Drunken Skirt Steak Tacos with Chimichurri by Tim Lunsford of Muncie. Five judges led by former Colts player Mike Prior and registered dietitian nutritionist Kim Galeaz assessed the recipes on presentation, food quality, taste, creativity and Colts enthusiasm. Contestants were encouraged to use products produced on Indiana farms.

 

“Both recipes were well prepared and presented, tasted great and were creative with plenty of enthusiasm for the Colts,” Galeaz said. “Although both contestants used food from Indiana farms, Hellman’s recipe – and tailgating display – used numerous Hoosier-grown products.”

 

Hellman received $1,000 and a “Colts Tailgate Recipe of the Year” plaque. Lunsford received a $250 Colts Pro Shop Gift Card. The finalists’ recipes were featured in the Colts Tailgate Recipe Cookbooklet, which was distributed to 10,000 fans attending Sunday’s game. The booklet also featured ISA board member Phil Ramsey’s Taco Casserole recipe and ICMC board member Natasha Cox’s Low Country Boil recipe, among others.

 

The Indiana Soybean Alliance works to enhance the viability of Indiana soybean farmers through the effective and efficient investment of soybean checkoff funds and the development of sound policies that protect and promote the interest of Indiana soybean farmers. The ISA is working to build new markets for soybeans through the promotion of grain marketing, livestock, aquaculture, production research, biofuels, environmental programs, and new uses for soybeans. ISA is led by an elected farmer board that directs investments of the soybean checkoff funds on behalf of more than 28,000 Indiana soybean farmers and promotes policies on behalf of the nearly 600 dues paying members. The Indiana Corn Marketing Council was established by the Indiana General Assembly to promote the interest of corn growers in the state and manage corn checkoff funds. The Council is composed of 17 voting farmer directors and seven appointed industry, and government representatives who direct investments of corn checkoff funds on behalf of more than 28,000 Indiana corn farmers.
